Specific to this site, I think there was a lot of clique-ish-ness circa 2007-2010”, where if you got pegged by the self appointed “in-crowd” they would try to follow you around the site, and internet as a whole to defame you. I think it was new enough that people found it a game to figure out who you were. It seems, I hope, on some of these longer lasting “professional” forums people are relaxing that urge to know everyone, everywhere, all at once. How many people here are still Sports Journalists? Few people are really who others are. I’ve JOKED once on this site saying I was @yankeefans wife. So obvious I wasn’t, but everything else is true.

This is me, pretty much. I don't really care who anybody else is, and have never made any particular efforts to find out. There are, maybe, three or four people on here who know who I am because I actually shared it with them, but I don't exactly hide my identity (anymore), either -- ever since someone in that clique-ish group tea and ease mentioned made a point of outing my gender a few years ago. (I still remember which of their exact posts it was, and I didn't appreciate it. But screw them).

There are people who could, and maybe have, figured out who I am without my realizing it, just because I have shared quite a bit about my real life, and it wouldn't be that hard to do if you know certain things.

I still come here because I enjoy the engagement, discussions and the chance to go read, and go back-and-forth with intelligent, interesting people, some of whom are like-minded and some of whom are not. There are very few web sites/message boards that I frequent on a daily basis, but this one remains at the top of the list.

I've been out (and loving it) on this site for more than 14 years, and I'd like to think that what I post is pretty mellow. I still come back since I'm getting a nice paycheck as a mod and I enjoy the conversations.
