Trump asked for "indefinite, after the election," the government asked for December. This was a good compromise, and the timeline is well within normal for CIPA prosecutions.

 

I’d heard March speculation so May doesn’t seem out of line. Assuming it doesn’t get delayed beyond that.

He’s going to be the nominee regardless. He has to be soundly defeated.

 

Is the current strategy among the GOP also-rans to be the person the party turns to when Trump is convicted? Be his veep? Honestly, its so clear that the only reason Trump is running again is to save his own skin. Even if he were elected to another term, I'm guessing he'd bail out as soon as the ink was dry on his pardon.

 

May is fine. Leave Trump out there twisting in the wind as the nominee and face of the party. The closer it gets to the election before he falls the harder it will be for the GOP to salvage anything.

The only thing that really scares me is for Trump to get jailed or kicked to the curb and someone like Kemp of Georgia getting the nomination with time to campaign. He'd try to drag them back to something resembling normalcy and would have a decent chance to pull votes.

 

Zero chance this is tried before the election. He is going to do some sort of emergency appeal and will tie it up.

 

If he takes power again he's never leaving except in a box.

You have to love the GOP - mere weeks after slamming the FBI's credibility, they hold up an FBI report as "proof" of Biden's guilt.

 

Yeah, even if the trial does happen in May, and he's convicted, there will be appeals. I will forever doubt he spends any time in prison, but there's zero chance they'd "lock him up" before the election.

 

It's almost as if it's all trumplican theater. All sizzle, no steak. These are not serious people.
