If a message board is filled with expressive, creative, witty, knowledgeable posters, then it is a good message board.

What saddens me is I don’t think we have many posters under 40, which means Father Time will slowly shadow this board over the next couple decades.

I don’t believe I’ve ever met anyone on here. I don’t think I’m friends on social media with anyone on here. I’ve revealed a few personal details to some former posters.

I’ve found out who a few people are, and other than some curious looking on social media, have never contacted them.

I’ve mostly tried to stay anonymous as I’ve posted 40,537 times since September 1, 2007 (sheesh), and a few of them are posts that I probably shouldn’t have.

I’m just a guy who was in journalism, now is not, and still come here because it’s mostly fun.

We’re about a month and some change from losing one of our “under 40s”

Does it take more time to consume its good than Patrick Cantlay takes to play a shot?

Spent most of my time in my early years on the board lurking. Soaked up a lot of great info about the business. I wondered who a few people were but never really cared.

I know a few people here IRL. I guess I prefer that it’s anonymous. But I’m a nobody from nowhere so finding out wouldn’t matter. Somehow I’ve been able to stay in the biz. For better or worse.

For me, and assume others, this place is much less about the biz now, and more of a catch-all for breaking news, interesting stories, sports, politics and a laugh. And some engaging discussions.

Joined 19 years ago after lurking since the Top-Ten days. Never worked in sports or journalism, but enjoy both as a consumer. I've disclosed some personal information over the years, but none of you would know me if you knew my name anyway. I still try to post assuming that you all know my name and would send my worst moments to everyone I know.
I'd guess I've had real-life encounters with 0-1 of you. I recently (I think last season) made small talk with a cameraman at Citifield (the tickets were from a friend) and got a SJ.com vibe.

Someone posted about covering some sport in some city. I had a family connection with a guy who was a writer in that city and covered that sport. I DMed and the poster was very kind. He filled me in on some of the details and offered nice words about both of the people involved.

It meant a lot to me.

    Funny you mention that.
I have some close friends in KW right now. Buddy texted me "One of Hemingway's cats just bit the shit out of (Wife)."
I replied, "That's what she gets for making fun of its toes."

I believe I only know a couple of people on here. Talked to another about job opening in Charlotte when I was there, but he left that job a few years later and no longer posts here.

I knew SFExpress, kind of. In addition to sharing the Express name, he interviewed me in Fort Lauderdale in 1985, and after I was hired but before I started he hightailed it for a job in another city! But I'll always give him credit for helping me get the greatest job I ever had for 26 years. And one that gave me the financial freedom to take shit-paying jobs for the next 12 years.
