It was before my family got a dog. My father would take me to his parents before Saturday night Mass. They had a beagle. Bred her once or twice. I loved playing with her. My grandmother would say I should become a veterinarian.

My aunt and uncle have always had beagles. They can be a little difficult, but I think for some reason they suffer a lot of abuse, like breeding farms.

I still liked them more than my aunt's French poodles. They didn't care if you existed outside of being fed.

I had a beagle for nearly 16 years. Great, great dog.

After losing our dog, Molly, to cancer in early February, we adopted our new friend, Lily, a month and a half ago.

They warned us about huskies (she's a husky mix), but we thought, "This dog is 8 years old" and seemed quite mellow when we visited and walked her at the Humane Society shelter.

Now we know better -- she gets the "zoomies" every evening around dinner time, and has some bad habits we're trying to change. Overall, though, she is a sweet dog and it's made the house lively again.

And then there's the howling! :)

Zoomies supposedly are a sign of a happy dog, so you're doing something right. I love it when ours gets them and just starts tearing around the back yard. She gets plenty of exercise already and is the fastest dog at our local dog park and it's just a hoot to see her hauling ass like a greyhound.

Our first day was a purebred Australian; our last 2 dogs were Aussie/lab mixes. Wonderful combination.

Aussies are fantastic; so loyal, will never do a runner out of the house.

Here's our Buster who I wrote about today:

This was ours (1990-2005). Named Shelby after Shelby Foote. He was the best running companion in the world.

Awwww man we had a couple of blue merle Aussies when I was a teenager. They're so great. As the lady (family breeder, not for show dogs) from whom we got Buster said, "Aussies are like an old sock, you'll never lose them." Shelby is beautiful (she retained her tail right?, not saying that's wrong)
