I think it's completely fair for either party to insure it gets the replacement if an elected Senator dies, resigns for health or other reasons, goes out for cigarettes and never comes back, etc., BUT I also think there should be an election at the earliest opportunity.

 

At this point, half the GOP caucus in the House could reveal that they indeed are from another planet in the middle of the UFO hearings and I wouldn't be shocked based on the weird run of news we're having lately.

 

Beshear should switch party affiliations THEN name himself to the seat*.

*Assuming it's legal like it is here in California.

 

The interim has to be of the same party as the predecessor. Law doesn’t refer to the governor.
