I just plugged it into an inflation calculator.
The Darlington tickets we had in '78 for $20 would be $93.59 today.
The Wilkesboro ticket for $15 in '79 would be $63.04.

The funniest thing I remember about that Darlington race was my dad - who would have been about two weeks shy of 39 - trying to show off by leap frogging a post in the parking lot, centering his nuts on the top of it, and my mom laughing to tears while saying "that's what you get."

Hungary was really dull race that was won in the first turn. Hamilton really gagged the start and that was that. I kind of figured that with it being a 2- or 3-stop race that some of the strategies and pit stops might mix things up.

Haven’t read anything about why the Merc was so slow on Sunday after swiping the pole on Saturday.

Crofty and Brundle made a good point during the middle of the race that Hamilton winning the pole on Saturday probably had more to do with Hamilton than the Mercedes. He didn't have the fastest time in any sector (and I believe wasn't in the top three in at least one of them), but a multi-time World Champion basically went on God mode for a lap, which doesn't really work over a two-hour race.

Also, Zhou Guanyu has to be thrilled with every headline accusing Hamilton of screwing this race up. He plum fell asleep at the lights (blamed it on a technical problem), then made up for it by absolutely starting a four-car chain reaction (one of the dumbest wrecks of the season so far) and turned a fifth-place start into being nowhere near the points.

Toto Wolff insists that Mercedes is still faster than McLaren, which is so laughable an assertion at this point that I’m not even going to grace his claim with a link.

Miami 2024 presale going on right now. Tempting, but I got my Vegas tix during the presale, only to find out later that American Express and Morgan Stanley offered account holders some pretty good packages that I might have preferred instead.

The only racing event I've watched since NASCAR's Chicago street race was NHRA in Colorado about a week and a half ago.
Guess I shouldn't have been surprised John Force and Cruz Pedregon (sp??) are still going at it, but Tim Wilkerson? Met that guy a quarter of century ago. Super dude!
Back to Chicago ... it might have brainwashed me a bit. Never before chuckled as many times during one auto race.

I miss the days of being able to walk up and down Broadway and it being so devoid of traffic on Sunday mornings that people could take wedding photos in the middle of the street.
