Other than the "advise and consent" part, Alito has a point. Once a justice is approved, the only remedy to malfeasance is impeachment and conviction, which will assuredly never happen in today's Congress. A SCOTUS nominee can therefore lie his or her ass off before the Judicial Committee with no consequences.

 

I've seen that expression of Mitch's, on my own mother's face. It's the unmistakable face of someone who doesn't know where they are in that moment.

He needs to resign, of course, but won't.
