Who performed it better: Paul or Elvis?

It's tough for me to pick my absolute favorite out of my top 10; like others have said, it can change with my mood.

I would say either The Weight by The Band or Doctor, My Eyes by Jackson Browne.

The Pretender and These Days by Browne are also in contention.

Duncan, a Paul Simon solo, is also in contention, as is The Boxer, IMO far and away S&G's best.

(And for the record, I'm still in my 30's. But 60's/70's folk rock is my jam).

    — My Morning Song, Black Crowes
    — Scar on the Sky, Chris Cornell
    — Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Metallica
    — Scratch, Morphine

If we are going broad, anything off of Honky Tonk Heroes except for the last song, If I give my soul, Sunday Morning Coming Down.

The most spiteful thing which Paul Simon ever did was take that song away from Artie on the last tour they did.

In his later stages, Elvis was incredible.

"Fountain of Sorrow" and "The Pretender" will forever be locked in a dead heat as my favorite Jackson Browne songs.

My mom's favorite all-time song was "Bridge Over Troubled Water." I picked the music for her funeral 18 years ago (and, somehow, spoke at it). Made sure that was played.

Elvis took that song, too? Good god, the man was such a vulture.
A lot of that goes on in Nashville, I guess. Johnny Cash did it, too.

And the remakes often are inferior renditions. Poorly stylized and distorted badly, which I rarely like.

I asked the question, because Simon himself thought Elvis' version was the best, and superior to his performance.

    I agree.

    A live version:

I also prefer Elvis' version of My Way over Sinatra's.

The Gambler was cut by someone (Bobby Bare or Cash) a couple of years before Kenny Rogers, it just didn’t click. All those guys copied/borrowed/covered songs to round out albums back then.
