There were three other current or former Iowa State athletes facing the same charge, according to Iowa state online court records. Those included former Cyclones defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike, who was drafted by Denver in 2022 and was suspended indefinitely by the NFL for betting on Broncos games during his rookie season.

Offensive lineman Dodge Sauser and Iowa State wrestler Paniro Johnson were also charged with tampering with records in the investigation.
Sauser made approximately 113 online bets worth $3,075 with 12 wagers on Iowa State football games, including those with Ohio, West Virginia, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, according to records.

Johnson, who won a Big 12 wrestling title last year as a freshman, is alleged to have placed about 1,283 bets online worth more than $45,600, according to the complaint. There were approximately 25 bets on Iowa State athletic events.

The complaint against Uwazurike alleges he made 801 bets online for more than $21,300, with four wagers on Iowa State football games.

The figures can add up fast. I had about $2.3M in action in 2021. Seriously.

Either you’re more loaded than you let on or my “They’re gonna take my thumbs!” joke was truer than I intended.

Most of it was arbitrage betting where I might place $600 on one side of a bet and $400 on the other side of a bet (at a different book) to guarantee, say, $28 in profit regardless of the outcome.

    That added up fast.

I have no love lost for anything Iowa State, especially their jagoff AD and coach who gets a pass for 1 win every 5 years against their in-state rivals.

So them looking bad in crises like this is fine by me.

But ... I could see things like this happening at literally every single school in the country. Like Northwestern and the spotlight put on hazing, I can see the floodgates opening on gambling.

Absolutely. Every school is at risk with 85-110 guys in a locker room. Unsure of the NIL impact but there probably is a vibe that cash is flowing now.

The guys who don’t have it probably want some of it.

    How can it not happen?
5 years ago, an athlete had to have a bookie (there would be no trace) or go to Vegas.

Now, every one of them has a sports book on their phone. They have money, and they are idiotic (see UGA atheletes *still* speeding).

This is a no brainer. And the stories we've seen is the micro-tip of the iceberg.

A series of $25 bets indicates chasing the dopamine hit of action more than trying for a life-altering payday. And almost by definition athletes are the biggest adrenaline junkies going.
