The last time TFG watched soccer was by accident. He heard Mexico was building a wall and rushed to the TV

But because every vote doesn't count the same, the Electoral College makes a Presidential election much more a rather of "where" rather than "how many." While redder states are getting redder, blue states are getting bluer. So the whole thing in 2024 still comes down to the same swing states that were in play four years ago.

Whomever gets the Republican nomination is probably still looking at 75 million votes, give or take. I sure hope enough "others" feel our republic is in terrible danger if they don't turn out for the incumbent or whomever winds up carrying the banner.

Where have people moved since COVID?

Arizona and Nevada definitely have gotten scads of MAGA-leaning ex-Californians, and Florida and Texas have picked up EC votes because of population shifts. On the other hand, the Rust Belt tossup states -- Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania -- have probably been losing older conservatives to the South and may have more of a blue tinge but they're also giving away EC votes compared to 2020.

And as a Georgia voter, I really don't know what to think about here. Atlanta continues to grow population faster than the rural counties can make babies, but the past two senatorial elections have had razor thin margins. And dumb as a stump Herschel Walker came within an eyelash of beating Warnock. I don't feel confident in a similar result to 2020, but at the same time, the state's Republicans are the Keystone Cops of politics.

So much can change between now and November 2024 that I just don't know. The economy could boom or bust. Trump could go to prison. Biden could have a health issue. Putin could drop nukes on Ukraine. China could invade Taiwan. Ohtani might sign with the Rockies. The Maple Leafs might win the Stanley Cup.

Wait wait, don't you remember he was an all American prep soccer player at Colonel Blimp Marching Academy in 1963, when as a 6-2, 180 pound junior he quit football to play the then newly introduced sport of soccer.

You know what they called high school juniors who were 6-2 and 180 pounds in the early Sixties in suburban New York who quit football to play soccer?

Something to do with the proverbial Bundle of Flaming Sticks.

    I resemble your comment.

The demographic shifts are fascinating to me. I live in a different, supposedly purple, state and I am fascinated by how the changing demographics will effect our statewide races.

Anecdotally, we're seeing major influxes of people fleeing Florida and California. But for every programmer moving to Raleigh or Durham, we're also seeing retired Boomers moving to smaller cities in the mountains and the coast who are trying to escape the results of Florida's conservative policies while still wanting to vote for Christo-fascists. I have no clue where we'll land in 2024 (or beyond), but it feels like the conservative in-migration is higher even though it's the liberal urban cores that drive our economy.

On one level, I find it incredibly interesting. On another, I find myself seriously contemplating a move back to Virginia or Maryland because I'm not sure I can continue to put up the good fight here, after 20+ years of making this my home.

Of course. Only his bone spurs prevented his pro career from taking off.

A little known fact is he was on the verge of signing a big money contract with Manchester United but he decided he didn't want to steal the spotlight from George Best. Plus John Wooden was recruiting him as starting center for UCLA.

Defense Secretary Releases Plan to Keep Top Jobs Filled Amid Senate Blockade of Promotions

"In a memo dated Aug. 2, Austin recommended several ways to "mitigate the harms caused by the hold" that Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., has placed on all nominees to become one-star generals and admirals and above. "This unprecedented, across-the-board hold is having a cascading effect, increasingly hindering the normal operations of this department and undermining both our military readiness and our national security," Austin wrote in the memo, which was obtained by Military.com and first reported by CNN."

DoD is saying, "Fine. Hold his promotion. We're going to name them "Acting New Rank" and send them to take command of the post that's been sitting vacant. Might even give them temporary pay corresponding to that grade."

    Screw you, Tubs.

The alternative? Like living with their families on their native lands and not being forced to work and beaten and ripped from family assuming you didn’t die on the voyage? Jesus the fucking racism.
