Air Force would do it because it's always wanted to be the other service academies, and I bet the Pentagon would like to see this. Navy might do it, but I doubt it given how the American is going. Army could potentially do this, but probably remains reticent from its C-USA experience. This would be a great way for Cal and Stanford to save face and for Stanford to dominate the league (assuming Notre Dame doesn't join).

    It's not happening.

If you are doing those six, just throw in Oregon State and Washington State while you are at it.

I agree that Air Force would be the least of their concerns in terms of wanting to join. I also agree it's not happening.

With the ACC stepping out of consideration, it looks like the AAC will try to figure out a way to bring in the Pac-4. Whether they can come up with something that makes sense, and that makes financial sense to the MWC teams that they'd want to add to form an AAC- West is the question. The amount of money it takes to get out of the MWC makes any of those teams signing on seem very unlikely - but all sorts of more unlikely things have happened lately, so who knows?

This isn't directed at anyone on here, but ...

I find the pearl-clutching from national media types about the burden put on softball/volleyball/track and field/etc. student-athletes because of the increased travel and time away from class to be a little disingenuous. Feels like there's been zero concern or attention paid to these non-football and basketball teams and athletes up to now, and it's only now that they are being held up because it suits the non-realignment argument.

"You mean football is the only thing that is driving college athletics?" Gasp!

So just join the MWC? Go independent?

I think the only pearl-clutching is simply pointing out that "Gee, the softball and tennis players are going to be pissed," not because I really give a crap if they have to travel to the moon and back during one of their seasons.
