    Is there any profession besides police work where newspapers take such pains to distance rogue employees with the “ex” modifier? They certainly weren’t ex when they were acting as state-sanctioned terrorists.

    Oh yes, I’m sure that’s virtually the same wording that was used. Talk about sanitizing for your protection.
