LOL. The moment he probably realized you didn't really belong in prison, huh? I read/posted on the thread you started on your experiences, but wow, I can just imagine that first night for you, just based on this post.

It's funny you should ask. I tried to be all Andy Dufresne like Shawshank, and actually being completely oblivious sort of helped that first night. What I didn't know was Thursdays were commissary days, where inmates received whatever snacks and toiletries they could order. Well, because there was no source of caffeine provided by the jail, they could order instant coffee. So I realized after being in there, they'd drink the whole container over the first 24 hours and get crazy buzzed until it wore off.

And I just happened to start my time on a Friday night. Not optimal for someone who likes peace and quiet when 35 other guys are hopped up on Folgers.

One of the obvious traits of people arrested for drugs (or prisoners in general) is that they have no self-control. Instead of allocating portions to last them for the entire seven days, they immediately eat or drink all of their commissary items, then have nothing until the next Thursday. Wednesday nights are amazingly quiet compared to the rest of the week.
