Connors was nasty. McEnroe was funny . . . and nasty.

Could this be Coco’s year? Took out IGA in 3 and previously won Toronto. Saw her last year in SJ and she is so quick and powerful.

A huge confidence-building win for Coco Gauff heading into the Open, holding off world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in a tough three-set match in the Cincinnati semifinals.

She'll face French Open finalist Karolona Muchova for the tournament title tomorrow.

She didn't win Toronto this year. The women played in Montreal and Pegula won.

Gauff made it to the quarters before losing to Pegula in three.

My mistake, she won in DC.

For me, best point in the US Open which I saw was the Lendl lob against Pat Cash facing match point.

We are considering attending the US Open on Sept 9 for the women's final.

Never have been. I realize it'll be midday and likely a scorcher. Any suggestions on possible seating to avoid early-afternoon blinding? Other tips on attending?

Last few years women's (and men's the next day) have started in late afternoon, so you should be OK. It can be hot,, but it can also be cold and rainy, or even just plain pleasant.

I learned my lesson about attending tennis finals back in 1996 and 1997 in Key Biscayne.

1996 men's final: Agassi vs. Ivanisevic. Goran looks sluggish in warmups, barely hitting the ball or moving. Continues when match starts. Retires at 0-3 in first set because of neck pain caused by sleeping awkwardly the night before.

Fans unhappy, of course, start booing. Agassi tries to calm them, saying what a great sport Ivanisevic was to even give it a try. Tournament organizers make a frantic call to Jim Courier, who lived on nearby Fisher Island. They fly him in by helicopter, and he and Agassi play an exhibition match.

1997 women's final: Hingis wallops Seles 6-2, 6-1 in 43 minutes. Took me longer to drive to the event than to watch the match.

    Men's and women's finals are both at 4 p.m.

This is a LOT of info and most of it not as relevant for a specific date like the women's final but this post is updated every year and has answers to every imaginable question about attending the Open. I make sure to consult it every year before going.
