Nailed it. White folk (me/not me) would do the latter. But you got it the first time.

I haven’t actually heard Jurupa Hill pronounced (weirdly enough) but I’ve heard plenty of people call it San Juh-sin-toe

San Jacinto you hear a lot since it's near Palm Springs. Jurupa just a couple of humps in the Inland Empire.

How did the Left Coast let it get to this?

And like other places, there are inconsistencies in pronounication. For example, Ignacio Valley in Marin County is ig-NAH-cee-oh. Ygnacio Valley in Contra Costa is ig-NAYSH-oh.

Ah, memories. I remember when I lived in Houston there was a talk radio guy named David Fowler who had a popular show. One day some lady from California called in and gave him hell about how Texans mispronounced all sorts of Spanish names and terms. "You people are butchering the language and no one gives a damn. It's not Ky-ote, it's Ko-yo-tay, it's not Ro-dee-oh, it's Ro-day-o. You're making me crazy with this stuff!"

Fowler let her rant until she ran down and then came back with "Well, there's an extremely simple explanation for that. General Sam Houston kicked Santa Anna's ass at the Battle of San Juh-sin-to, so we really don't much give a damn how that stuff gets pronounced eleswhere."
