I think there's going to be some sort of different political party entirely. Different coalition.

That could happen, but the two parties are very strong and have proven past abilities to change to meet new circumstances. It wasn't that long ago (2000) that the Republican party had had a generational lock on college educated whites and that the Democratic candidate usually carried West Virginia easily.Even the Whigs, the original infrastructure party, a jerry built group whose basic principle was "Andrew Jackson sucks!" lasted two decades and won the Presidency twice before slavery tore it apart and brought us the Republicans. For a realignment, it's gonna take some extremely primal issue like that. Another attempted insurrection might do it. That could pry the 15-20 percent of Republicans who vote that way out of habit away from the Trump-authoritarian 30 percent.

Here's a data point for both Alma and Azrael. The firm Echelon Insights has a new poll finding that 42 percent of likely Republican primary voters are 65 or older. On the plus side, old people are reliable voters. On the negative side, well, this old would prefer not to dwell on it, but with every election that voter file shrinks.

I think you are underestimating people's ability to hold contrary ideas. You have young people indoctrinated into the Trump cult and or the Republican Party by their parents. They aren't going to change just because a large percentage of the students they go to college with vote the other way. If anything, that will make them cling to the ideals they were raised with even more tightly. We know that even older adults often vote against their own interests. You think teenagers won't do the same thing?

Meh, if the Iowa GOP caucus actually meant anything, we'd be talking about the presidential campaigns of contested Iowa caucus winners Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum and Ted Cruz.

I love how specific the Georgia bail restrictions on Trump were. They are written differently than those on any of the other defendants, and are very plainly written with regard to what he can say about anyone involved.

Now if they'll just actually enforce those provisions and jail him for contempt when he tests the court.

Judge wouldn't even have to make a contempt finding. If you violate bail conditions, the judge can revoke bail.

That would work just fine. His porky ass sitting in the Fulton County lockup for a couple of weeks would be very effective at corking his yapping.
