My old rag used to have 8-10 phoners on a Friday night. It's now one. And the HS sports editor has openly stated that he'll be damned if he ever chases down a high school result. There's just so much wrong about it, I don't know where to begin.

We would have about six in the office and two out at games. We kept the schedule of games printed out and checked off the results as they came in, then started calling the coaches around 11 p.m. if we didn't have their results yet.

Football, we'd try everything to get details. Every other sport? Fuggetaboutit. We'd direct what few complaints we got to the ADs and coaches.

This is my policy as well. Also compared to other sports, football is better about posting their stats somewhere -- maxpreps, hudl, etc. compared to volleyball and basketball. Baseball and softball have no excuse with gamechanger.

They're just saving nickels where they can and don't care about the product.

Anyone know if this will be at all Gannett outlets? I'm guessing it is. Will be interesting to see how it plays out in some football hotbeds.

It worked so very well for the Associated Press, we have to do it too!

GameChanger has an automated program that produces a recap story based on a team's statistics; I believe it's been a part of the app for 10 years now.

The stories are still hot garbage. Can't identify the real turning points in a game, and the statistics it chooses to highlight are odd.

It's been fruitless trying to find HS sports coverage of any kind from the local Gannett outposts. They've stripped their sports departments to bare bones, if they have one at all.

And when we do it again next August, people will be too exhausted to raise Cain.

Yeah, nowhere in that bullshit press release did it say this was a bad idea and we'll never do it again.

"tapping the breaks"--that's what I do when I'm at the stop sign by my house at 1 AM.

"We learned in this experiement. now it's time to pivot."--you're all still fucked
