It is quite the match, with imo more than a bit of gamesmanship from Siegemund. The serve clock violations would drive me mad.

 

She's ranked 23 in doubles, 121 in singles.

She is mostly a doubles player.

Now order is being restored.

 

First time I’ve ever seen someone complain to the chair umpire (Coco Gauff’s opponent is apparently time wasting) at length and get cheered for it. She’s apparently right but I find it interesting. Also, Gauff went from up two breaks at 3-0 to double faulting repeatedly while serving for the match.

I have nothing against the US Open, but in the same way I love the Australian Open for bringing the heat policy in the middle of the dour mid-winter vibe, this tournament feels like a two-week long reminder that summer is basically over and the rest of the year is all NFL takes.

 

Siegemund shook hands with Coco at the end of the match -- but did not shake hands with the umpire.

 

I love this time of year, sportswise. Track and field worlds into U.S. Open into NFL.

 

I’d forgotten they play such late matches early on. Djokovic is going on about 11 pm? Damn.

 

Michelle Obama getting a WWE-level "pop" while she basically comes out to cut a promo.

 

She was really over.

 

A couple games ago, they did a shot of Michelle in the stands that included one ear, and I was like, "Oh, Barack is in the house tonight."

Also, I really hope the USTA worked a sponsorship deal with a deli for this match, because Nole is handing out bagels.

Not sure I've seen a longer match. The gamesmanship by the german was on point.

Glad to see no linespersons. They are superflous and unnecessary.
