Other than the Pac- name, at this point what incentive does the MWC have to merge with the festering corpse of the Pac-12?

Not sure, but from what I’ve read of other posts here, maybe there’s an ass ramming angle.

It makes the MWC a much stronger football conference, for one thing. And that's the only thing that matters.

I meant as opposed to just scooping up Oregon State and Washington State? That part makes sense. What isn't making sense is how people keep talking about some sort of merger, or a bunch of the MWC schools sliding over to the Pac-12. Seeing as how the Pac-12 just imploded because of piss-poor leadership and is little more than a name, why on Earth would any MWC schools willingly jump into that raging dumpster fire when they can add the P12 remnants without giving up much of anything?

They find a way to combine so each can keep the NCAA basketball unit money that will pay out through 2020. It's some serious cash, now that only two Pac-12 teams will remain. The Pac-12 earned $36 million over the life of the deal for the 2021 tournament alone.

That makes sense then, if there is still a lot of money in the Pac-12 name.

Just a guess here, but I'm thinking if there is a deal to be done, the ACC will announce Cal, Stanford and SMU on Monday as part of their Labor Day night ESPN game. Even though it's Dabo at Duke.

Or on Sunday (FSU vs. LSU).

Quite the week in the ACC.
Monday: Shooting at UNC postpones planned conference call.
Tuesday: The grand opening of the Charlotte HQ. Nothing was going to bigfoot the moment when the league went from its founding locale to an office building at the behest of ESPN.
Wednesday: CFP meetings, which took place with no resolution of the number of AQs in the 12-team format.

There will come a time when they have to vote or move on.

I've been waiting and waiting for an opportunity to join you in the "Tiresome Nickname" game. Alas, Sally Hemings State and the Fighting Serpentines don't make the football headlines all that much.

$7 was a decent hunk of change back then. I remember buying Braves seats that were right on the dugout f0r $7 a decade later than this.

I didn't know that until 1971, the race was always held on Memorial Day proper (May 30), regardless of what day of the week it was.

And the race above actually was rained out that Tuesday and was held the following day.
