Jobs are never the result of the president but it always falls to the president or they take the credit. So no, it isn’t completely dumb to blame Trump any more so than it was to blame Bush I or others.

What is fair game is the fact the response was piecemeal and often directly hampered by the efforts of the president. Yes every country suffered and we were going to no matter what but we got through it almost in spite of Trump. So in that case, it is fair to lay jobs lost at his feet. We clamored for shut downs but can you imagine how much quicker we could have fully and safely (Florida and Texas, I’m looking in your direction) if masks weren’t politicized and listening to doctors was normal and not a fight?

 

A Democrat in the Oval Office wasn't going to make a red- state governor any more open to shutdowns, masking and vaccines.

Hell, it could have made for even MORE pushback. "Hillary wants to shut down YOUR business, make you wear a mask everywhere and get vaccinated or lose your job."

THAT would have gone over swimmingly in Texas, Florida, etc.

 

This post makes an observation that was a topic among some friends recently: In the 40+ years Trump has been in the public eye, we couldn't recall seeing him laugh out loud. There's that leer he pastes on his face, but that's about it.

 

The point was Trump’s active push to deny what was going on. Politics would have played a part, but a sane federal response would have helped so much. Even the usual politicking wouldn’t have made things as bad.

 

The gravy seals were repulsed by a police corps that was not coordinated and ultimately flanked. Nothing went right for the cops that day and they still held the line.
Imagine how it would go if they were not caught flat-footed and or subjected to fuckery.
