The TV thread

Watching Peaky Blinders from the start, about 5 episodes in. Well done but not a "must watch" because they seem like prior stories, just a different setting (some new stuff, like WWI PTSD, Irish as the minority, etc.). I may be wrong but that's how it strikes me.

 

I watched the first two seasons but did not understand the hype.

 

Come on man! You've got to give me more than that!!

 

I thought that it was all style and zero substance. There was a hint of something interesting with the striking workers at the beginning, but it went away.

 

Thanks, I meant actually that it would be better than it was but appreciate the insight.

 

On the other hand, many of my friends swear by the show.

 

That was pretty much my take on it as well.

 

I know its unfair, but I kind of think its popular because people like saying the show's name (PEAKY BLINDERS!!!) and because people are capital A "ACTING" in the show.

 

I did enjoy learning a bit about the time period - I enjoyed Downton Abbey for similar reasons, the changing class structure in the UK etc.

 

Oh, my. Don't let them see any reruns of "Another Period." Their eyes might bleed.

 

In the first three episodes of "Billions" this year, there have been references to Dick Fosbury, Chad Johnson and Crater Lake.

What's next, Giant Killers, Tall Firs and an exploding whale?

 

Exploding Whale is my guess.
