I hope Oregon State and Washington State wind up duking it out for the Pac championship.

Clemson fans are in all kinds of panic, especially with Dabo not using the transfer portal and clearly that's becoming a depth issue for them. But the Tigers are in an stretch where they are 142-24 since the start of the 2011 season with six playoff appearances and two CFP titles. With all the staff Dabo has lost and the fact that he had six straight years of Heisman-level QB play, it's impossible to think Clemson wouldn't eventually fall off a little.

Every program that had a 5-6 year run of excellence eventually loses major staffers and with them comes a bit of fall off in recruiting and a few more losses.

Problem is everyone looks at Nick Saban like that's easy to do. Nick Saban is one of kind. Most coaches in Dabo's situation aren't going to change for shit at this point because the way they did it won championships. Saban is one of the rare coaches that hates losing so much that he'll make major staff, roster and philosophical changes coming off a 12-2 season.

It’s fine. Clemson is built in the name, image and likeness of Christ.

I think the stat was ... Dabo's teams were 79-7 from 2015-2020 and 21-7 since.

If Dabo isn't careful, Clemson could turn into VT 2.0 real quick ... and when it goes, it's hard to get back.

I'm honestly torn on Saturday's game in Charlottesville. On one hand, it would be hilarious to see 20,000 JMU fans storm Scott Stadium to watch the Dukes embarrass the Wahoos. On the other hand, the JMU fan base has quickly turned insufferable in Virginia and this would only exacerbate that. They all sit there claiming they're the best program in Virginia after one 8-3 FBS season in which it beat Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina. So, uh, go Hoos? JMU needs to be taken down a damn peg.

Really once it starts going one direction there isn't much they can do. If it was just as simple and Dabo grabbing a dozen kids from the portal that's one thing. But he had six years of amazing QB play that can't be replicated. Clemson had a terrific staff that has fractured off now. As that staff goes, so does recruiting. Those kids that Brent Venables and Tony Elliott brought to Clemson they are now trying to get at Oklahoma and Virginia. It's hard to replace the chemistry and effectiveness of those staffs because every coach does things a little different. Dabo is also at a point where he probably doesn't want a staff of guys challenging him to change, so he's making hires based on comfort.

There are too many examples. Bowden in hsi final 10 years at FSU. Beamer is his final 4-5 years. Mack Brown in his final 4-5 years at Texas. Bill Snyder faded twice at Kansas State after hitting a string of double-digit win seasons. Larry Coker at Miami.

No one's going to fire Dabo. Clemson got on the map under his tenure and he is without question the most powerful guy at that school. They just have to wait him out now and hope that he isn't stubborn like Bowden was and just wants to hang around out because he can.
