I’ll give them one thing: Unlike ODU and so many others elsewhere, they did their time in FCS ball. They didn’t have the arrogance to think they deserved to be in the big leagues just because they created a team.
    Perhaps that has changed.

I am going to indulge myself for a minute because I have to get this off my chest and I'd rather it be here than Twitter.

My dad died back in December and I miss the big, grumpy lug all day everyday. Most of the time I'm fine, but there are a couple times where it really hits me that he's gone because I just want to talk with him about something. Dad wasn't a Deion Sanders fan in the absolutel least, but he would have been so happy that Colorado won because he always hated the NCAA establishment and loved anyone or any team that sort of broke the mold and put up a middle finger to the assocation. He loved the U when Jimmy Johnson was there and loved Bosworth wearing the shirt and really any time a team or a major player gave some version of a "fuck you" to the establishment or just went against "the right way" to do things.

I just wanted to talk to him so badly Saturday because he would have been as excited as he could've gotten at this stage just because Deion gave a big "fuck you" to every one of the pundits that had been dumping on him.

If we don’t know nearly as much as we thought in Week 1, do we know even less going into Week 2? There’s always a ton of overreaction and correction until we start to triangulate a bit in Weeks 3 and 4.
That said, here are some games I like this week:

    • Notre Dame -7.5 at North Carolina State — I’ve never been a Notre Dame fan at all, ever. But if they can make me money I might find a soft spot for them, and I think this team is going to make me some money this year. They look good (until they don’t, and then I’ll hate them again).

    • Georgia O52 vs. Ball State — Seems like Georgia can get to 52 by themselves if they have to. Ball State is not going to be the team to expose any weaknesses this Georgia team might have.

    • UMass O44 vs. Miami (Ohio) — I’m keeping a close eye on UMass right now, which appears to be a good offense/bad defense team that is outstanding for low totals like this one. Allowed 30 and 59 in its first two games. Hopefully they can keep it up.

    • San Diego State +14.5 vs. UCLA — UCLA easily could’ve lost to Coastal Carolina last week. Coastal misfired on several red zone drives and wasted opportunities until UCLA finally got just enough distance between them. Just like last week, I think San Diego State is scrappy enough to cover and could be a sneaky little odds play to win outright at +460.

    • Oklahoma State -3 at Arizona State — Pretty sure Arizona State is ass. Give me Okie State to cover the short line.

    • Auburn -6.5 at California — Auburn is probably an above-average SEC team and Cal if a below-average Pac-12 team. Auburn can win this by at least a touchdown.

And some games that I want to like, but just can’t:
    • Southern Miss +30.5 at Florida State — I like Southern Miss to be competitive here, but I can just as easily see Florida State choking them out and it ends up 52-7 or 48-14. Best to steer clear.

    • Utah -7.5 at Baylor — This should be an ass-whipping, and maybe I’ll turn it on late in the first half and Utah will be up 31-0 and I’ll feel stupid for not betting it. But the Spidey Sense is tingling that something feels wrong here.

    • Oregon -6.5 at Texas Tech — Same as Utah-Baylor. One team coming off an easy win, another off a bad Week 1 loss and playing at home. It just feels too obvious to take Oregon, and that doesn’t feel right.

    • Colorado -3 vs. Nebraska — No. Just ... hell no. Nebraska plays nothing but close games and this ought to be a classic trap game set-up for Colorado — huge win, getting plenty of hype, back at home, and an opponent that's good enough to be dangerous. At the same time, can you ever trust Nebraska?
To quote Sheriff Kimbel from “Young Guns II,” I’d rather drink turpentine and piss on a brush fire ... I ain’t touchin’ this one.

Colorado will hammer Nebraska. The Buffs will be exposed, but not this weekend.

I don't know anything about this guy's situation, but Mack Brown absolutely torched the NCAA for denying Devontez Walker's eligibility after transferring.

My dad has been gone for several years now, but I so wanted to talk to him at the start of this semester because the granddaughter of one of his all-time favorite athletes is in my class this semester. He would have been delighted to hear that and would probably invited himself to my class to meet her, and I would have welcomed him.

So NOW that Stanford and Cal are in the league, creating all sorts of logistical nightmares for Olympic sport athletes, they start caring about the student/athlete. Oh wait, he's a football player, who will charter everywhere.

(Yes, I know Carolina voted against expansion.)
