maybe the president will suggest it be nuked.

Then mark-up a government map with a cheap pen.

Cat 5 that is expected to strengthen AND slow down. It's already crawling.
Now it looks like reaching the expected turn point is late next week. That's a long dang time.
The spaghetti models are all still good on the shift as of this morning.

She’s one of the local meteorologists, pretty good too. One of the models has it making a bee line for LI and CT, like Gloria did in the 1980s. Let’s hope it stays over water

More than there used to be. More retirees who live here (or here and Florida) who don't leave until Columbus Day, and more second home owners from Boston who come on weekends until the holidays. Place doesn't really empty out until New Year's. But at least, if there does have to be an evacuation, many folks have someplace to go for more than a few days.

The lastest forecast discussion from the NHC on Lee.

"Lee continues to move west-northwestward or 300 degrees at 11 kt. A well-established mid- to upper-level ridge over the central Atlantic should continue to steer the hurricane west-northward into early next week. The ridge is forecast to build southwestward near Bermuda late this weekend and early next week which is expected to cause Lee's forward speed to slow around 5-7 kt between days 2-4. Late in the period, a mid-latitude trough that will be moving into the Great Lakes Region is forecast to weaken the western portion of the ridge, and Lee should begin to turn more poleward around that time."

    Poleward would be very good.

So you're saying Bermuda's going to take it in the shorts?

This thing is crazy. It's dropped from a strong 5 to a weak 3 but supposed to pick back up.
The models and now the cone solidly have the shift, and @Michael_ Gee the latest runs have it curving farther east. The thing to watch is Margot will be a hurricane early in the week. While a fish storm, it has a bit of a northwest bend that could put it and Lee in the same neighborhood in the north Atlantic.

This is interesting - for those of us obsessed with this sort of thing. This graphic points all the recorded Cat 5s when they hit the mark.
