Scary D-II brawl here between Delta State and Chowan. Several Chowan players (and a fan, who you can see at the bottom right of the screen) were clearly using helmets as weapons.

One official's throwing a penalty flag while a player wields what is, in effect, a deadly weapon at the time of use.

Here's another video of the secondary brawl along the fence. It looked a lot tamer from the wide shot, but up close you can tell Chowan's players are beating the hell out of the Delta State guy even before the fans jump in. Good thing he had what amounts to body armor on.

@MileHigh can chime in what the protocol and mechanics are in that situation.
Looked like one official was still on the field while everything was going on, probably trying to keep Delta State's players from rushing across and joining in. Two others are along the edges, apparently working crowd control as it breaks up. One is in the middle of it trying to move guys around. The poor umpire saved the guy pinned against the fence, after he got knocked to the ground and trampled in the initial stages of the fight. That dude is a hero.
Can't spot where the other officials are, whether they're mixed up in the mass of bodies or off-camera somewhere.

Got home from Lubbock this afternoon and can’t decide if all the smoke/haze in the sky is from the remnants of the Canadian fires or the smoke from all the weed smoked in Boulder after thumping Big Red.
    My answer is yes.

    Good points all.
To clarify: I don't blame the guy for throwing a flag. I feel bad for him. He's doing his job, which is impossible in that moment.

It's quite possible he didn't see it, either. He's standing on the sideline, a good 15 yards away with about 50 large men at eye level with him. The guy swinging the helmet was on the far side of the pile with all those bodies between he and the official. Seems like they could've thrown themselves in a bit more to exert authority and break it up but, again, there might be certain protocols they're supposed to go to when there's a fight.

    NCSU used to. Not anymore.

As for East Carolina, for all the crying and whining that fan base does for not getting who they want to face - never mind that they have destroyed NCSU's home stadium twice over the years ... gee, why should NCSU invite trouble again? – sure ... invite Appalachian State. Go right ahead.

I’ve gotta say, at least in my workplace it’s the Wolfpack fans being dicks to the Pirates and not the other way around.
