Another great season! Will definitely be back to attempt to improve on this season's sixth-place finish.

I figured I'd post the league rules again as a reminder. There are some changes effective for 2024, such as replacing saves with saves+holds.

If anybody has suggestions for other rule changes, now would be a good time for it.

Keepers will be due exactly one week before the draft each year. Each team may keep up to six players.

Effective for 2024, teams failing to turn in a roster on time will lose three keeper spots. If they are more than a day late, they will lose the remaining keeper spots. There will be no exceptions.

Teams will be permitted and encouraged to turn in a keeper list early. Keeper lists may be submitted on the league thread on SJ.com, via PM, or by email to the commissioner at tampicostogies@yahoo.com. Owners may revise their list up until the deadline, so there is no penalty for submitting it early.

Players will cost their owner a draft pick two slots higher than their cost the previous seasons. Undrafted players will cost a 20th-round pick. If you have two players who cost the same round, you may designate the order. If you do not, the commissioner will choose the order for you.

Effective for the 2023 season, the league added an NA spot to allow for minor leaguers. That is determined by Yahoo’s designations. Players who are suspended by MLB are not eligible for the NA spot.

Effective 2023, the draft will be 26 rounds with an additional roster spot. NA is not a roster spot for the draft. Owners will have to move a player into that position or pick one up after the draft.

Effective 2024, saves will be replaced by saves+holds.

If we have a player in the NA spot this season, can we automatically keep him or do we have to declare him as a keeper? If so, what round is he?
    Thanks

The player in the NA spot is treated like any other player on your roster. You would just include him in your list of up to six keepers. The round is based on how you acquired him. If he was a draft pick, he costs a pick two rounds higher. If he was undrafted, he will cost you a 20th-round choice. (Possibly higher if you keep multiple undrafted players.)

Since this has become a de facto running fantasy baseball thread, I'm already looking at keepers for next season. (Okay, I've been looking at that for a while. I'm in three keeper leagues, so I always have some idea about this.)

My one keeper has a very early cut-down date, Jan. 2. I'm sure I'll be posting about this one closer to the deadline. Hopefully, I can make a trade or two. I have 11 options I like for eight veteran spots . We have a $300 salary cap for 25 starters. I prefer to hold my keepers under $100, but that probably won't work this time around. It is a league with five outfielder spots and two catcher spots, which adds to the value of keepers at those positions.

I see six players as locks:

    1. Austin Riley $20

    2. Yordan Alvarez $21

    3. Nolan Jones $6

    4. Logan Webb $21

    5. Tanner Bibbee $6

    6. Bobby Miller $6

Riley and Alvarez are cornerstones offensively, though I might see if I can trade Alvarez. Those injuries just cut into his value every year. Jones showed too much promise not to keep at that price. I see Webb as an anchor to my starting pitching. Miller and Bibee are there due to their youth and low salaries. I could easily keep two more pitchers, but I could go cheaper and more balanced with one or two hitters in the remaining spots.

Here are my options for the last two spots with my thoughts on each player.

Logan Gilbert $14 - Has settled in as a rock-solid starter, though the ERA was a little higher than I'd like.

Jesus Luzardo $15 - Has some rough patches, but solid ratios with a great strikeout rate.

Ha-Seong Kim $6 - He looked like a no-brainer six weeks ago. The overall numbers are good, especially the steals, but he sucked the final two months of the season and the MLB track record is limited

Bo Naylor - $6 - Finished strong. Brings power, OBP skills, and some steals as a catcher. He has a real shot at 25 homers, 15 steals and a high OBP as a catcher. I worry that the Guardians aren't committed to playing him often enough.

Zack Geloff $6 - Showed impressive power and speed, but the exit velocities don't entirely support the power and the lineup around him sucks.

    What do y'all think?

FYI: I just renewed our league for 2024. You all should have received an email. Please let me know if you are not planning to return. We can get into a serious discussion of potential draft dates shortly.

A preliminary thought I had was March 21 in the evening. That is the Thursday before the opening day. We would do cuts exactly two weeks before that to give me time to update the draft order and allow owners time to prepare. Nothing etched in stone yet. I'm just tossing out an idea.
