Mom and Dad arrived in NYC last night and are getting to enjoy some New York City history. On the other hand, my wife was stuck in traffic for 2.5 hours on a trip that should have taken 40 minutes, after I told her last night, "Honey, this isn't really a meeting you can miss." I didn't know it was going to be rainiest day in history! Felt like Miss Beadle on Little House on the Prairie sending the kids out into the snowstorm.

Wilder was an adult living in South Dakota during the Great Blizzard of '88.

Novelist Willa Cather was 15 and living in Red Cloud, Nebraska by then, so had firsthand experience of it.

So that blizzard shows up in a lot of early and mid-20th century American lit.

Not to be confused with the Great Blizzard of 1888, which crippled the Northeast two months later and spurred the creation of the New York City subway system.

Also one of the reasons we moved all the electric underground.

The odds of me ever stepping foot at Mammoth Mountain resort again are rather slim but I've long been fascinated by their webcams--especially during last season's epic snow. Well, right now the first snow is falling on the summit, and the grass is quickly disappearing.

This is how much snow they got by April...

If I was in Cali and saw the snow, I'd be saying bring it.
