The institutional flaw of the Times is not bias except its amazing bias in favor of itself. The tell as to its arrogance is its despicable habit of refusing to credit other outlets for news said outlets broke before the Times had it. I have heard that reporters on stories have put in such credit and editors have removed it. So it covers politics striving for Olympian detachment and winding up with a condescending sneer that no pols live up to the standards expected by the New York Times. Olympian detachment is of course an impossible attitude for human beings (the Greek gods were pretty short on it themselves)..Peter Baker, who boasts that he doesn't vote so as to maintain his detachment, has very obviously had it in for Biden since the Afghanistan withdrawal, which must've offended his sense of American mightiness.

True. They are not. But management is another matter. Management has a vested interest in broadening appeal even if doing so stretches the truth.

Wait, is it actually true that trump’s NY fraud case isn’t a jury trial because… his lawyers failed to ask for one?

That can’t be real, right? Or they didn’t actually want one?

I think that all Trump cares about is that he is allowed to rant about being a victim and that his female lawyer (who is in way, way over her head) is attractive.

I always go with the first answer being incompetence and that he’s not a master strategist.

I have worked on cases where that has happened because the lawyer forgot to include it or check off a box on a civil cover sheet. In fact, the one case that I worked on which went to the Supreme Court (I was very junior and basically got everyone lunch a couple of times) got there because the plaintiff forgot to ask for a jury trial, the judge refused to grant a late request for one and the judge was forced to put his opinion on writing rather than rely on a jury verdict. Because he opined on an open and controversial issue of law, the case ended up working its way up the ladder.

But you're disposed to thinking that all impasses and disagreements are the fault of one party. "Telling it like it is" boils down to a 100%/0% fault division.
