Performing anything not already written involves writing. Which is scabbing. And writers shouldn’t give away anything for free.

I disagree. Several newspaper strikes have had reporters on strike put out their own publication. My great-aunt was part of one in the Bay Area. A writer not under contract can do whatever they want with their talents. Now, crossing a picket line or delivering scripts on the down-low to producers? Absolutely. Putting it out under your own name, or doing a podcast is within bounds. What you want to do is undermine the producers leverage.

By giving away their product in an inferior way for free? That'll show those producers!

This isn't getting settled anytime soon.

Oh - I totally agree. NPR had a bit on it, said Atlanta film-service businesses (like catering etc.) noticed very few bookings coming in in recent months, and this is usually a very busy time. So the producers weren't planning on a quick settlement or hoping to avoid this.

So… what happens to SNL this season with the writers’ strike going on? Is the show just on hold indefinitely?

Anyone care to speculate on when the season might start?
(I’ve been loving the SNL-related Fly on the Wall podcast btw. Some great behind-the-scenes stories)

I figure it'll be like the baseball strike. Whenever it ends, they'll have their "spring training" and get prepared for whatever regular season they can fit in.

My guess is it will be settled in October, with non-live shows rolling out in January.

    They're baaaack.

Main cast looks to be in tact, with Sarah Sherman and James Austin Johnson promoted. Not sure about the other featured players, and they added a new one in Chloe Troast, who's close with the Please Don't Destroy guys.

Glad SNL is back. It's not what it was in its peak years*** but it's still good enough enough of the time to make it worth watching.

***everyone's peak years are when they first watched the show, so for me, 1990-95 or so

jesus christ they are trying so hard to make Pete Davidson a thing. I've enjoyed his work from time to time, but it seems nuts that he's the lead-off guest for the season.

I'm assuming that the quick turnaround to get back at it led to him being the choice. I can't imagine trying to find a big name available on maybe a week's notice was a fun task.
