the angels would be so lucky to get him. The initial Showalter surge is worth it

What's the difference between Showalter and Madden? Will Buck put up with Minasian's interference? Joe didn't like it and it got him fired.

Minasian was a clubhouse kid with the Rangers and was still there in some capacity as a college kid when Buck was their manager. Buck likes old-school lifers, and Minasian is refreshingly one of those (went to Texas-Arlington). I could see them getting along well for longer than Buck usually gets along with GMs. They might also be the other's only lifeline...if Buck can do the Buck magic, as Della noted, it might buy Minasian, going into the last year of his deal, an extension.

What the Rays need is a little Veeck ingenuity.

I love Buck, but I hope he doesn't go to that dead-end franchise in Anaheim.
Maybe he and Craig Counsell can trade jobs.
Another possible landing spot might be Toronto, which has perpetually underachieved. But I'd rather not see him in the AL East. He might get something out of those guys.

Buck's only shot is to land with an older-school organization, so forget Milwaukee. Toronto makes some sense, unless that idiotic plan to use Berrios as an opener came from above (it surely did). But unless Melvin can wrangle free from the Padres (and he will at some point), the Angels actually make the most sense. He does his best work with minimal expectations and dumpster fires. You can't find expectations much more minimal, or dumpster fires more blazing, than the Angels. It wasn't his fault the Mets went south this season (they were done once Diaz got hurt), but it fed a narrative that's going to be impossible for him to overcome at 67. If he goes to Anaheim and makes the playoffs at 86-76, he'll win Manager of the Year again.
