President Biden: The NEW one and only politics thread

I know you mean this relatively speaking, but calling it "greatest failure" sure makes it sound like he's done something catastrophically wrong. And he hasn't. His immigration policy hasn't differed much from Trump's. More people want to come here because, surprise, they want to come somewhere that they're wanted and not demonized by the president and his foreign policy team.

Twenty years ago when Tom Tancredo proposed this nonsense border wall, everyone laughed at him. Including Bush and most of the Republican Party. It just goes to show how far right the party has swung where it's now considered legitimate policy.

 

The policy treated Cubans differently (better) than any other nationality, which was wrong. It was just a way to shove it in the Communist regime's face (like fleeing a Communist country is somehow any different than fleeing simple poverty and/or oppression elsewhere). And even that policy was two-tiered. Cubans who made it to land were here to stay. Catch 'em 100 yards off the shore, and back they go. Ridiculous.

I lived in Broward County, so the Cuban community's effect was only tangential to my area. Lots of good, smart, hard-working people, as far as I could tell. But they didn't deserve treatment better than those from Mexico, Haiti, etc. And neither do Venezuelans.

That's fair, but it has created problems. Even in that area, Biden showed why he is the better president. He was willing take an action he had criticized in the past, one that could end up hurting him in the election, because he now believes it is the right call.

Immigration has been a mess for decades. Blaming it on one president is silly. It appears to me Democrats have tried serious solutions.

 

Matt Walsh’s assclownishness aside, the whole “don’t end a sentence with a preposition,”always reminds me of a great story about Sparky Anderson.

One time, a Tigers player struck out on a close called third strike. Sparky runs out to argue:

Sparky: “Where was that pitch at?”

Umpire: “Sparky, you’re a great manager, and you have an excellent team. But don’t you know you’re not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition?”

Sparky: “Well, then, where was that pitch at, Asshole?”

I had a Phillips CPAP for a hot minute. Not totally useless, but close to it. I ripped the thing off every night, no matter how many layers of straps they provided me with.

 

My daughter lives in a pocket of far eastern Tuscaloosa County that is home to a West Virginia diaspora. (I pass the UMWA hall just before the turn to her house.) She might wind up with more of a mountain twang than I have.
