Giving up seven runs in a third of an inning for the Mets in a must-win game in 2007. Still bitter.

If Glavine wasn't given four inches outside the plate all the time, he wouldn't be a Hall of Famer.

    Prove me wrong.

Don't Gerrit Cole and Bauer absolutely despise each other, going back to college?

They made it to the CWS together ... maybe the Yanks need that kind of fire in their lives.

    Eh.

Weird relationship energy didn't help in '72 when Kekich and Peterson swapped wives.

    Team went 79 - 76.

Everybody hated everybody in 1978, and that turned out OK.*

    * Thanks to the 88-day newspaper strike

There is a shitload of people sticking up for somebody (Bauer) who hasn't earned that sort of support.

We're supposed to be in the age of non-judgmentalism, whatever consenting adults want to do behind closed doors is fine, do you want the government telling you what you can or can't do in your bedroom, etc etc blah blah.

Honestly, that’s categorically untrue. Moreso when you’re a famous, multimillionaire athlete, but it’s untrue for us shlubs, too.

I had an ex very publicly accuse me during a custody battle of some pretty awful things on social media that were completely fabricated. I spent some time (too much) responding to each and every statement online. Had to deal with some of it in court (not much because some of the lies about me were refuted directly by police eyewitnesses). Cost me enough in lawyers fees that I had to borrow from family to clear my name in court.

Finally, an old friend who I had lost touch with messaged me out of the blue to express support and said, “You know that everyone who has ever met you knows it isn’t true, right? You’ve spent 30 years building a reputation in this town, and so has she. Stop responding and trust that the people who matter, the people who know you, know it’s all bullshit.”

As wonderful as that advice was for me, it’s not much use to someone known by name, but not known personally, by millions of people around the world.

*EDIT: This is not to express support for Bauer, just meant to refute the specific statement that if you’re a “decent human being and you probably don't have a thing to worry about.” People are really shitty and being a good person doesn’t necessarily make you immune to that.
