the nomination for the ambassador opening was the first week of September. stuff that should be rubber stamped.

I have no doubt the vacancies played a role in Hamas's planning.

 

Jack Lew is not some big donor who received a plum ambassadorship for his support - the guy is an experienced public policy vet - treasury, state, former Chief of Staff to Obama - but its not like he would have stopped it from happening.
That isn't sarcasm btw. Ambassadors don't have superpowers.

One other point - if terrorism is defined as using violence to attempt to affect political change - does it matter if you were involved in an attack or not if you try and use a terror attack to affect political change for your own ends?

 

And despite everyone’s pearl clutching, that’s how every non-MAGAt should feel.

Biden has us in a place where the country, for now, is governable — even with 40 percent of the electorate refusing to behave like adults and trying to overthrow the federal government.

 

One of my favorite stories in that vein took place a few weeks before the 2020 election. I’m grabbing a sandwich before grocery shopping and these two older guys in the cafe are arguing over politics. “He’s a meathead!” one of them said about Trump. He said that one or two other times in the next few minutes and for some unknown reason, I almost busted out laughing.

 

Saudi Arabia was on the verge of recognizing Israel. This will certainly thwart that move. The country has a powerful fundamentalist faction that resents Israel's sovereignty over Jerusalem, in spite of diplomatic overtures MBS may extend.

The king had no desire to fly airliners into the World Trade Center, but a group of Saudis did so nevertheless.
