So none of the five teams with the best regular season records have made the two league championship series.

That postgame interview with Castellanos was bordering on uncomfortable to watch.

Castellanos again proves himself a huge douche in that interview.

I missed it. What did he say?

He didn't say anything, really. A transcript would be wholly vanilla inoffensive. But he never cracked a smile or showed the slightest bit of emotion while speaking in a complete monotone. He could not have made it more obvious he didn't want to do it if he'd said "I'm just here so I don't get fined."

    Batman and tapintoamerica like this.

    Bigger douche: Castellanos or Harper?

Oh, I think the "Is there a question in there?" reply comes off snarky, even in a transcript.

Of all the people to talk about locker rooms, she should be about last on that list

Anyone who is still wondering about Alanna's morals and ethics should google Chris Iannetta and see what the autofill provides.

"A drive into deep left field by Castellanos" and something something Swifties ...

    The Athletic's morning Pulse:

    Team of destiny: the sequel

The Braves-Phillies series felt over before the first pitch of last night’s game. When everyone seems more focused on the ethics of clubhouse reporting than the actual on-field issues, bad vibes permeate the atmosphere. You’re done.

It proved true hours later, as the 90-win Phillies slayed the 104-win Braves in a 3-1 final, eliminating Atlanta in the Division Series for the second straight year. Nick Castellanos homered twice for the second straight game, something no one's ever done in the postseason. Trea Turner added a solo shot, and the Phillies survived multiple Braves scoring opportunities late. Two thoughts:
    • This Phillies team feels enchanted for a second consecutive postseason, using home runs and home crowds to power another run through the playoffs. They get the Diamondbacks — another vibey favorite — in the NLCS, which starts Monday.

    • Maybe we should reframe that debate about tweaking the MLB playoff format. It’s easy to look at the Braves, Dodgers and Orioles — who won 100 games each and couldn’t survive a five-day postseason layoff — and say they deserved better. But what if this was the NFL? Do we freak out if a 12-5 team loses to a 9-8 team in the playoffs? Or a No. 1 seed losing in the NCAA Tournament? We love it when that happens. The fan base might stress, but that’s just normal business. This should be, too.
Speaking of the NFL: The 5-1 Chiefs’ 19-8 win over the 1-5 Broncos at home last night was a mostly dismal affair, which could be the title of this Denver season so far. You can’t put up eight points in front of Taylor Swift.
