JMU's hopes are compromised by the NCAA's unreasonable denial of the Dukes' bowl eligibility. The whole transition phase thing was designed to dissuade the unworthy -- Old Dominion et al -- from creating a football team and moving to FBS without having to earn anything at lower levels. JMU won two NCAA titles in FBS and had proven its legitimacy.

I said it yesterday: Iowa might finish the regular season 11-1, especially with its mediocre at best remaining schedule, but the Hawkeyes still aren’t a top 25 team in my view.

A top 10 defense? You could make that argument. But one of the worst FBS offenses in the country.

Don't forget about what an absolute shithouse of an app Peacock is. Will be regularly suffering along with it for my beat for the foreseeable future.

The Hawkeyes could just as easily finish 6-6, too. They have a scout team-quality QB and their top two tight ends are injured (for practical purposes, tight ends are the only receivers on the field in a Ferentz and Son offense).

That leaves the running game, and teams will be stacking the line every single play to stop that.

Point of order on Iowa: the transfer quarterback (Cade McNamara) they brought in is hurt and out for the season, so their current QB was not the intended plan.

I kind of weirdly admire that Iowa finds ways to win with such a freak-show offense. Will they be exposed? Oh God yeah, but their 1950s ways are kind of retro fascinating.

No question, just pointing it out for those who think Iowa was rolling out some schlep from jump.

The opening O/U line on next week's Minnesota-Iowa game is 32.5.
I can't make a better joke about Iowa's offense than that.

I didn’t see the play, but I believe that the scuttlebutt out of Ann Arbor was that All transferred because Michigan’s team doctor wouldn’t clear him.
