When I played (way back in the early 80s) we once won a game 2-1. I was the quarterback and somehow how didn't get pulled. Yes, being Canada those were single points off punts. It was September in Winnipeg and the weather wasn't a factor. It was a nice day as I recall.

Well, at least you gave a 110-yard percent effort.

    Two problems here.

    1. This should have been a foul on the kicking team at the kick.

    2. Even if run correctly, there was 1 second left. No time should have run off.

At least one foul on kicking team.
    Maybe more.

At least four players on each side of the ball.

Also, it wasn't a 47-yard free kick, but 4o; the tee was set up right on the 30.

There was a 100-64 8-man score in our area last night.
Our game was a Class 5A vs 4A 57-37 marathon.

It's tainted because officials didn't properly enforce the rules. And maybe he makes it 5 yards back, but that should have been blown dead when the kid kicked it -- or the officials should have done some preventive officiating like we usually do and get it right.

Yep, on such a play the illegal formation wouldn't actually exist until the ball became live, ie was actually kicked by the kicker, correct?

But once he puts toe to the ball, at that moment if fewer than four members of the kicking team are on either side of the ball, that constitutes an illegal formation and should be flagged down immediately.

Correct. It'd be called/enforced like a false start. The referee, who in this instance should have been under one of the uprights, is the one to make this call.

Didn't realize I had done it. It happens.
