Yes, but it really, really limits the competition options.

For example, a team like Canisius could easily field a DIII teams and play Alfred, Rochester, Buffalo State, Hobart, Hamilton, Alfred State, Hartwick, Brockport, Ithaca, St. John Fisher, etc., and never have more than a 3-4 hour bus ride. Detroit Mercy could start a program, boost enrollment, and play Adrian, Alma, Albion, Hope, Kalamazoo and some neighboring Ohio teams and never have more than a 2-3 hour bus ride.

However, since it has to play FCS, even a non-scholarship program would have significant expenses.

The first college football game I ever saw was Rochester at Alfred, when my parents went back for Homecoming weekend.

I’m sure there are important differences between the MAAC and the NEC. If my life depended on naming two or more I’d be in line for cremation.

"Merrimac's mother's making Merrimac marry me. My mother's making me marry Merrimac. I'm gonna marry Mary so that Mary's taking care of me. And we'll all be feeling merry when I marry Merrimac." -- Great Big MAAC

The MAAC has a better TV deal for basketball. That's essentially it. You can see MAAC games on ESPNU or ESPN2 on Fridays every once in a while. The NEC is relegated to ESPN+ at best.

If you in fact did know two or more differences between the MAAC and the NEC you would be well advised to get a life.

That's some fucked up machinations to keep Army-Navy on the second Saturday of December.

Next up for the AAC is to raid a team (or three) from the A-10 to pair with Wichita State as non-football members.

Tulane can't get out of the AAC fast enough.

Whoever talked Tulane’s administration into taking football seriously again, could they go have a chat with Rice? The team itself isn’t half bad this year but they draw worse than some 5A high schools.
