With all due respect to The Athletic, the quality of personnel isn’t remotely close to what the Times had.

Basically the same cover as well.

Different publishers, as this one is Harper Collins and Pos is from Simon & Schuster. But S&S was just bought up and HC was in the running. Did the new owner do this as a middle finger to HC? They gonna franchise the idea and do other sports?

Joe's "baseball 100" writing is online at The Athletic. So they "ripped off" a concept they put online in the first place?

Just noticed that Eric Stephens is now covering the San Jose Sharks for The Athletic.
No, he hasn't been shifted to the Sharks beat. He is still covering the Anaheim Ducks AND the Los Angeles Kings.
Three is cheaper than two ... is cheaper than one.
Try to keep your brain from being fried, Iceman.

Also, the Orange County Register (which includes the a bunch of other papers like the L.A. Daily News and the Riverside Press Enterprise) has one guy -- Andrew Knoll -- covering the Kings and Ducks.

Along these lines, Arthur Staple is covering all three NY-area hockey teams. LOL The Athletic. What a joke. (Waiting for the obvious Athletic employee to chime in here)

I guess that one guy covering California is better than no guys covering Florida. The Lightning and Panthers are pretty good teams.

The Athletic has not had a beat writer full-time on the Nuggets since Nicki Jahabvala went to the Washington Post. At that time Nick Kosmider was transferred to the Broncos.

Last year in the playoffs the Utah Jazz beat writer covered the Nuggets championship run. Has the Athletic hired anyone to cover the defending champs this year?
