My guess is that the main source of discontent is the price of the most basic economic item of them all -- money. For a decade, debt was very cheap. Now it is significantly more expensive. This has a major impact on big-ticket purchases, almost none of which are purchased cash on the barrelhead. If people can't afford to borrow for the nicer house they want, they're unhappy. And it makes them think everything is more expensive, even things that aren't and that they're buying with both hands.

 

This makes sense. And plays into the larger lack of awareness we've developed as a country.

 

DA needs to say "Fine. Deal's off. See you in court."

Actually, her first visit to her probation officer will be very interesting. They take zero shit like that. I'm always reminded of the great line from the musical, 1776: "I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is called a disgrace, that two are called a law firm, and that three or more become a CONGRESS!"
