One of the several reasons that prosecutors are often willing to agree to pleas with long suspended sentences and probation in lieu of only prison time: Probation is hard, and when you have a real shitbird on the hook, you know they're gonna fuck up. When they do, revoking probation and activating that long sentence is way easier than proving a new crime. And if they don't fuck up - good on them and good for the community.

So Georgia and Alabama have to redraw their gerrymandered districts, while North Carolina and Louisiana get to keep theirs. I'd wish for the courts to get it together and standardize this, but I'm afraid the Supremes will turn the R's loose to do as they please and kill more of the VRA.
