They killed a planner, and they made the point emphatically that hiding among women and children would not protect such a person. It's bloody minded as hell but it gets the idea across.

Of course, Hamas is lying when it claims none of its leaders were there. I have no doubt about that. It's what they do, hide among defenseless innocents and lie about it. That doesn't make this any less awful.

Israel killed a planner, and I bet one of the survivors of the bombing is some 10-year old kid who'll become the planner for the atrocity of 2038.

This is exactly the sort of thing that I was afraid was going to happen. Hamas has provoked Israel into actions which are militarily effective in the short term but will be very costly politically over the long term.

Is anybody else having trouble posting links? I've been trying to post one to an article about House Republicans trying to tie cuts in IRS funding to support for Israel.

Edit. Odd. Now that worked. Seriously, fuck Mike Johnson and the rest of his crew for trying this nonsense.

NPR links are notoriously hard here.

"Sure, we support aid to Israel. All you need to do is cut taxes on the rich and we'll pass it."

This is the sort of thing I was absolutely certain was going to happen. Hamas was counting on it, too. People will be stupid and ignore the role Hamas played in it, proving the attack and using those innocents as human shields.

You could see it coming a mile out. Biden certainly did, and he tried hard to calm things down. Netanyahu's political vulnerability (and the fact that his government was caught napping) meant that he had a lot of pressure to do something big quickly. Israel will be paying the price for years, likely decades.

They needed to respond with ice cold revenge, and instead they jumped in with passions running high. Poor bastard civilians paid the price, and so will Israel's standing in the world. This was a political masterstroke by Hamas. Israel and Saudi Arabia were getting close to a treaty that had a legit chance to calm things down a bit in the Middle East, and they decapitated it.
