Even someone like me who supports an independent Palestine (the "tw0-state solution") realizes it will never happen as long as Hamas is part of the equation.

The only two-state solution that won't have perpetual conflict is if you give the Palestinians half of Wyoming and the Israelis half of Montana.

Going back to 1948, both sides have agreed to - then torpedoed - a two-state solution.

The following is from an interview with Ghazi Hamad, a senior member of Hamas

"Israel is a country that has no place on our land. We must remove it because it constitutes a security, military and political catastrophe to the Arab and Islamic nation. We are not ashamed to say this."

Details: The terrorist called the existence of Israel "illogical" and added that it should be wiped off "all the Palestinian lands."

Asked if that meant the total destruction of Israel, Hamad replied: "Yes, of course."

Quote: "We must teach Israel a lesson, and we will do it again and again. The Al-Aqsa Deluge [the name Hamas gave its 7 October onslaught - ed.] is just the first time, and there will be a second, a third, a fourth. Will we have to pay a price? Yes, and we are ready to pay it. We are called a nation of martyrs, and we are proud to sacrifice martyrs."

Of course Israel has the right to defend itself.

    The question is, how?

That is the point of putting those two posts together. They face an enemy that doesn't just want to defeat them. It wants their nation gone. It wants them all dead and it is happy to sacrifice its own people to get there.

    What happened?

Hamas accepts Palestinian state with 1967 borders

But it does not go as far as to fully recognise Israel and says Hamas does not relinquish its goal of “liberating all of Palestine”.

Sounds like a compromise until they are in a strong enough position to shove Israel into the sea.
