Yeah, and then Knight got hired by ESPN and he was no longer allowed to be a focus of ridicule, as my editors at Page 2 explained when they removed any jokes pertaining to him and said to cut it out.

And, honestly, I thought he was an incredible color analyst. I learned so much from his ability to phrase complex concepts in a few words.

Much like I think Saban would be the best color analyst anyone has ever seen.

My father-in-law was a high school coach in NW Indiana and took Knight’s course at IU, sent a Mr. Basketball to Bloomington and worked big man camps with Knight. He thought Knight an asshole, but calls him a flat-out genius teacher.

Funny enough, Frank Isola on his NBA radio show today was talking about how he remembered the game being postponed a day or two. So figuring one of you had to be wrong, I looked it up and confirmed it was indeed you who is right; game was postponed about 7 minutes.

Not only that, but the last of the third place games tipped off as scheduled. It was responsible for the 7 minute delay, not the shooting of the President.

I feel like they did a 30 for 30 short on the third place game.

And that is why it will be standing room only at his funeral.

I'll take the other view: This cartoon is just low-class.
Knight certainly had his demons, but he's not going to hell.
Save that shit for the killers and rapists and sexual predators.

I didn't realize the tidbit about him only ever coaching 1 NBA All-Star in Isiah, and still doing what he did, which obviously shows the genius aspect of him as a coach.

Yeah, Isola got that one wrong.

Also, the Hoosiers’ 1981 title was above the fold on the cover of the Bloomington Herald-Telephone (now the Herald-Times). Reagan getting shot had nice play underneath.

My only in-person experience with Knight on the NCAA Tournament trail was the 1992 Sweet 16 at Albuquerque. That was the Calbert Cheaney incident with the whip. The sports writers were content to ignore it and write about basketball. But the Albuquerque Journal sent a newsside reporter and -- first question -- was about the symbolism of a powerful white man using a whip on a black man. That triggered a lot of response. So we had to write about it and dredge up all the other Knight-isms. Most of us thought it was a non-issue. The next day, Indiana carved up UCLA on the court.
I recall actually feeling bad for Knight that day. But, he did all of this to himself. So be it.

Why didnt he ever ply his trade in the NBA? Probably woulda had less success trying to bully full grown men. Him and Geno Auriemma knew to stay in their lanes.

This is from a huge fanboi, let's not think BK was winning with mid-major talent. He was second in recruiting talent to Smith/NC from the 70's to the late 80's. Alford and Damon Bailey were top recruits for the country. That '76 team had 5 1st round picks and they all played in the NBA (Benson #1). Mike Woodson, Randy Wittman, Quinn Buckner, etc. were outstanding, long-time NBA'ers and were consensus All-Americas. Knight had a lot of talent to work with.
