    Ah, the patois of 2008.

And they didn’t know a song would have the lyrics “This is my fight song/take back my life song/Prove I'm alright song/My power's turned on /Starting right now I'll be strong/I'll play my fight song”

How could those sweet youngsters have known?

I remember reading this thread as a 24-year old in the newsroom.

What the heck. Here's one of the most beautiful lyrics:

    How gentle is the rain
That falls softly on the meadow?
Birds high up in the trees
Serenade the flowers with their melodies
Oh-oh, see, there beyond the hill
The bright colors of the rainbow
    Some magic from above
Made this day for us, just to fall in love.

I didn't see this browsing through the pages and rappers were discussed.

Don't think so, although he did have a hand in "A Boy Named Sue" and one of my favorites as a kid, "The Unicorn."

He also did a poem on rain:

    I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
    And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.

    I step very softly,
    I walk very slow,
    I can't do a handstand--
    I might overflow,
So pardon the wild crazy thing I just said--
I'm just not the same since there's rain in my head.

The Toys' hit is actually based on an 18th century classical piece by Christian Petzold (previously erroneously attributed to Bach).
