I read the article. Arizona is facing financial problems for a number of reasons. One of them is that they "loaned" the athletic department 55 million during the pandemic. Repayments are trickling back more slowly than expected.

Has one of those "loans" to the athletic departments ever been repaid in the history of Division One athletics?

At least Arizona will receive about as much on the new Big 12+ television contract as they did in the Pac-12. Washington State had created a replacement fund from their dorm fees. The idea was to put money aside for the refurbishment of the dorms on a periodic basis. But when the athletic department went over budget the school would pull the money from the dorm replacement account. The auditors caught them and the school had to document the money and record it as a loans from the housing department to the athletic department. Now Washington State is looking at a lot less money on the new television contract. I think the mattresses in the dorms are going to get very lumpy in Pullman.

It's really crazy to think how much college athletics is starting to suck the life out of universities. Despite all the millions in revenue they generate, they still can't cover their expenses. You would think the NCAA might require audits of athletic department finances.

Why would the NCAA care? It promotes athletics, not universities' financial health.

There are multiple levels of people who should be concerned about university finances before the NCAA would have any say in the matter.

Probably can’t do that, but members should come to senses and pass legislation eliminating analysts and other superfluous positions in football. That’s a start.

Discussion went something like this ...

"Hey maybe we should leave the Big Ten?"
    "That's stupid."
"Yeah, I was kidding. Next order of business ..."

True. Not exactly a fit in the SEC, the only league with revenue guarantees comparable to those in the Big Ten.
    Paul Whinebaum would go nuts.
Not as absurd as FSU and Dabo claiming they'll be leaving the ACC momentarily, but close.

They can't keep track an investigation of a school's violations correctly. Do you expect them to suddenly be able to organize an undertaking of this magnitude?
