Yeah, no shit. She's on Fox, and people are surprised she just makes things up?

Dammit! I was kidding when I said I had Lane Kiffin's love child.

When I was in my first days of the business, like 16-18, I made up quotes (along the lines of what Charissa said she did, generally no-shit and “oh, he’s a great kid” stuff) and lifted quotes and did all the things that you should not do. So I feel like a bit of a hypocrite in this thread.

But I learned. Relatively quickly. Mostly by seeing how true professionals worked or being given some guidance by a helpful elder. Sometimes the hard way.

I just wouldn’t be so cavalier about it on one of the most popular podcasts out there.

So if Thompson not being in that same role anymore makes a difference, should Erin Andrews committing the same sin and still being a sideline reporter mean more when it comes to how she is viewed?

I’m also in the target demo. I think she’s ice-cold and generally full of shit. YMMV.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Honestly, the first thing that popped into my head when reading this thread was a time when I approached a coach post-game and he didn’t feel like talking. He said, “What do you think I would say? Just write that.” And walked away.

I didn’t directly quote him saying something I made up, but did write a sentence along the lines of “Coach Bippity was impressed by his team’s ability to run the ball and outgain Shitsville 223-45 on the ground.”

I'm afraid that in general, I just don't want to inject nuance into fabricating information as a journalist. I don't even care if it's done to keep your head above water. It wasn't acceptable in 1956; it isn't acceptable in 2023.

Julie DiCaro rightfully unloads on Thompson:

Yes Charissa, sideline reporters are journalists

Agreed, except now we know she's completely FOS. Credibility destroyed. But I guess as long as the checks cash ...

On weeknights, on Rupert's Cirus propaganda network, she would get her own carnival-barking hour.

If you are dumb enough to make things up, don’t be dumber and brag about it.

If you're going to say nothing, yes, that would probably be best.

But if you feel you have to say something as her publicist, that wasn't the worst thing she could say.
