Only holdovers from the last time:
    Castiglione
    Doucet
    Hamilton

In 2017 under a different format
Cohen, Doucet and Krukow were on the ballot

That's a strong concentration of Hall of Very Good.

I mean, other than two of the greatest right-handed hitters who ever lived.

See the part where I said "concentration."

    Wait a second.

Who are the two greatest right-handed hitters who ever lived?

Id vote for Beltran, Beltre, Helton, Andruw Jones, Mauer…and hold my nose and vote for Manny, A Rod and Sheffield.

I tell ya, Abreu has a pretty impressive CV himself, but he was never quite to the level of many others on the ballot.

As usual, the dead ball era gets shafted. Wagner was considered as one of the two best players, along with Cobb, of his time, and the best player in the National League by a significant margin. Everyone on that list was an all-time great, but Wagner is certainly better than 10th.

I always respected Abreu, every bit as much as Utley. But neither can sniff the raw numbers necessary to get 75 percent.

I think you're going to be wrong (eventually) about Utley. The electorate knows how underrepresented second base is and that it's not really his fault he didn't have the time to collect the counting numbers b/c the Phils had him in the minors until he was 26. There's only so much that can be done about Lou Whitaker & Bobby Grich. But Utley is a chance to right some historical oversights. It won't happen anytime soon but I like his chances over the next decade.
