But just the belief doesn't make it so. There is a legislative process, review by courts. And everyone with a strong opinion lobbies/works the system religious or not. But people want to block others who happen to base their options on a religious belief rather than some secular belief.

If we can stone Trump, I’ll throw the first rock. And probably Nuke Laloosh it through the bar door.

Obligatory "he eats pieces of shit like them for breakfast" line from Happy Gilmore.

They can and will justify all of it with "hate the sin, love the sinner" and "he's flawed but an instrument of God."

Apparently that bullshit allows them to sleep at night. That and he hates the same people they hate.

What’s “good” and who gets to decide the utility?

I'm told that by maintaining and participating in our representative government, we all get to argue over and decide these things.

    Sure.

    But let's take this example:

Presumably, the majority of American Christians can differentiate basic notions of "right" and "wrong." They know one from the other.

The trouble arises when some of those Christians set aside their understanding of right and wrong in favor of the idea that Donald Trump - regardless of how "wrong" we've known him to be for decades - is an instrument of God. Thus to them the wrong he does - say, stoking an insurrection to overthrow a legal election - is in service of some higher power, some greater right, some divine plan.

Doesn't take much to overturn the fundamentals of "right" and "wrong" when you think you're getting your instructions from God.
