Probably not, but they could, except now they can't.

The committee's job is to put the best four teams in the playoff. It did just that.

Probably not. Did they earn the right to play in the game, though? Undefeated major conference champion, what more can they do? Look good in a bathing suit?

If it's just "What pairing delivers the best TV game?" why bother with playing out the season and pretending it matters? Just nominate the brackets and let them play through it.

I don't know if the Seminoles would beat either of those two but that's neither here nor there in this equation.

They won more games so …

In all honesty, results should matter. In every other sport in every other league, it’s results. Forget the Libertys and UCFs for a second because this playoff was always about teams from 5 conferences plus Notre Dame, if your results don’t match someone else’s, you should not leap frog them.

If the answer is no, then you have no argument. These four were chosen by a committee of people who probably know more about the game than you and I and were assembled specifically to choose the teams under a specific set of rules to improve the system over the BCS.

The specific set of rules include record and conference titles. This was people too afraid to leave out the most popular conference.

I’m waaay too naive here when I ask this.

This is the last year of the 4-team. No need to worry about a precedent for next year.

Why couldn’t they just say, “what the hell. Alabama. Florida State. 4-5 game. Next week. Winner gets the 1-seed.”

    Who wouldn’t watch that??

    No.
They didn’t put the 4 best in OR the most deserving.
    Question.
    Would Georgia beat Texas?
The answer is an emphatic yes.

Norvell wouldn’t want to watch that.
    They would get demolished.
