Potential stupidity doesn't excuse actual stupidity.

Norvell needs to say, “I left Memphis to come to Florida State because my best Memphis teams would have never gotten a shot, even if we went 12-0. I guess this means I need to coach at Alabama.”

What if he’d broken his leg scoring the go-ahead TD in the championship game?

They just like the idea of putting the Flames in a bowl whose logo has flames in it. The idea is such ... fire ... or however the kids put it these days ...

But you wouldn’t have predicted a season like this one, in which there were more 12-1 or 13-0 Power 5s than in any other.

Sort of like saying what could potentially happen in a game is a reason for not letting that game happen and finding it ever would really happen?

I'm not sure even Bama fans are dumb enough to make the arguments that are being made here. But, please, keep it up. It's been quite fun.

The bars in Arizona will do land-office business, Liberty fans will be drinking like fishes since they're out of Lynchburg.

Everything would have been the same EXCEPT there'd be little to no evidence as to the consequentiality of his absence.

I'm from the South. I'm an SEC apologist. Here was my take last month:

And dixie is on record as saying Alabama didn't deserve it.

    That's absolutely true.

And there's the rub. They (meaning the SEC) never prove the committee wrong by their playoff results ("Aha! I told you they didn't belong!"). Even worse, they often apply an utter beatdown to their semifinal opponent and sometimes their title game opponent. The credibility that builds over a decade of winning your semifinal game every year (but one) and the national title 13 times in 17 tries is obviously staggering.

It's kinda surprising something akin to this hasn't happened more frequently. There were three 13-0 P5ers in 2019, and Oklahoma was the only other one-loss team of note.

The "south" stuff is funny. FSU ain't in the northeast. It's about 200 miles farther south than Tuscaloosa.
